Saving the World: A Buffy Quiz, Gothic Heroines, Slayer Bracket Challenge, and 90s Grunge

Well, friends, we made it to August. The summer ☀️ is flying by like Superman (Taylor’s Version, of course). But before July slips away like a bottle of wine, let’s hold onto the memories…of RemarkSwift: our month long celebration of all things Taylor Swift here at rmrk*st!
While our app and Discord community members planned a bunch of Taylor Swift events, we published incredible content from community contributors. From fun games 🎲 and listicles to deep dives into the impact of her music 🎶 in the grand scheme of popular culture, writers really showed off their fandom and talents. Like an Eras Tour light-up concert bracelet, every writer shined! ✨
While fans love to decode her music, 🕵️♀️ there’s still some things that most might not know about her. For example, did you know that Taylor Swift is known by other nicknames around the world? We didn’t! Other articles explored the evolution of Taylor Swift’s feminism, and the heavy influences of Game of Thrones in her writing. 🐉 And while Taylor might be inspired by other artists, writers are just as influenced by her, as one article explored.
The fans were enchanted 🌟 to listen to the release of Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), 💿 We can see you, Taylor! And you know she can see us too. One writer explored how solitude and community in fandom go hand in hand, 🤝 especially in the Swiftie universe.
And who could discuss Taylor Swift without devoting a significant amount of time to her look? Especially as the Eras Tour has taken over the fandom, a lot of time and energy is devoted to Taylor’s fashion 👗 as it has changed over the Eras of her career. One writer took a closer look at that red lip 💄 classic thing that we like; that is to say, they explored the aesthetic evolution of Taylor’s makeup, hair, and outfit style choices over the years. We are consistently wonderstruck! 💫 And in an entirely different take on her look, we learned what Taylor might look like as a transformer! Behold: Taylortron-13!
One fandom we never forget is Gilmore Girls, and to that end, our writers compared Gilmore Girls characters to Taylor Swift songs. We also published this hilarious (and accurate!) roundup of Taylor’s album covers for the Gilmore Girls enthusiast! ☕️📺
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, right? Wrong! Just for fun, we implemented a few games 🎲 for Taylor fans. Our emoji word search game has become a bit of a tradition here at rmrk*st; we had to make an emoji search for Taylor Swift! And over on our Instagram, we did a bracket-style Melodic Mayhem 🎼 game (inspired by Taylor’s Midnights Mayhem) to find out: what is the ultimate Taylor Swift lyric, according to fans?! The winner? You know it all too well.🧣 And if that weren’t enough, John Cabrera upped the (vigil)ante when it comes to trivia at Remarkist, and the Swift fandom was the proverbial guinea pig. No rodents 🐿 were harmed in the making of this new game mechanic, but one was indeed elevated to pop star level status. 🌟 (For the record, we knew you were trouble when you walked in, Squirrebek.)
And speaking of trouble, we are super excited to dive into the next month. It’s August, and we’re gonna need you to meet us behind the mall…in Sunnydale, CA. That’s right–if you haven’t guessed, August is officially Buffyverse Month at rmrk*st! 🧛♂️ And to that end, we’ll be exploring the entire Buffy the Vampire Slayer world with creative content from contributors and staff writers. We’ve got a great mix of games, deep dives, and best-of lists headed straight your way this month!
