Music Festivals, Best Venues, Cruises and Rocking Docs
All the ways we celebrate live music fandom!
As the seasons change and we head into summer, here at rmrk*st Mag we are ready for the gear switch! Literally. Last month, we devoted ourselves to video game content in honor of the release of Fallout on Amazon Prime. But this month, we’re getting outside.
Before we don our sunscreen, sunglasses and hats, though, let’s use the Start button to take a look back at the pieces you might have missed in April!
Video game IP and movies go hand in hand, so we took a look at some of the great movies that were inspired by fan-favorite games. Looking back on some of those movies had us feeling nostalgic for classic 16-bit games of the 1990s inspired by movies of the same decade! And speaking of nostalgia, we took a look at video games IRL and explored theme park entertainment that puts you right inside your favorite game world. We don’t know about you, but we’re saving up for a trip to Super Nintendo World.
And of course, we had to explore how the newest video-game-turned-TV-series, Fallout, measured up to the smash success of other series like The Last of Us. Our writer journeyed into understanding the series as a non-gamer, and the results were….well, you’ll have to read it!
And, since April was also release month for Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department, we imagined what songs the residents of Stars Hollow would have on repeat. Our own Remarkist platform live listening party was so much fun that we had to bring those vibes to our favorite fictional town.
As we emerge “Fresh Out the Slammer” (to quote Taylor) that is the winter season, fans get super excited for what’s to come in the warmer months. For some, that’s summer blockbuster movies or vacations to fandom-inspired theme parks. But this month, we are pretty jazzed for summer concert season! And that means we’ll be crowd-surfing into live music fandom: the venues fans love, the festivals that draw millions, bespoke con-like experiences and we might even get into some debates about the official song of the summer in 2024!
May is also Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, so look for celebratory content that highlights our favorite creators in that space.
So we hope you’re ready to rock out with us. And we want to hear from you! Tell us in the comments what music and concerts and festivals you’re loving these days. Check out our Table of Contents below for a…ahem…setlist…of pieces coming your way. Stay tuned for surprise drops! And as always, don’t forget to follow us on Instagram and Tumblr, and find other fans like you in the forums on our Discord! And definitely keep an eye on our Spotify; you never know what fun playlists you’ll find!
