Gilmore Season, Bracket Games, Hispanic Heritage Month and Barbie! 🍁🍂
We’ll have you fall-ing for all the fandom content coming your way this September!
We can see us lost in the memory, August slipped away like…well, like a dusted vampire 🧛♂️. September is upon us! Bring on the autumnal drinks ☕️, apple pie 🥧 scented candles, and settle in with your favorite comfort characters.
Speaking of comfort shows…in case you missed it, we dedicated last month’s rmrk*st content to TV shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, as well as the movie 🎬 that started it all.
Our community at Remarkist planned a slew of events from watch parties to gab 🗣 sessions to listening 🎧 parties dedicated to the Buffyverse, including a continuation of two community slates dedicated to Buffy and Angel respectively. At rmrk*st Mag, we took the opportunity to get into some deep dives, trivia, and fandom fun!
With the recent passing of Paul Reubens on our minds, we looked back at the Buffy the Vampire Slayer original film and how it differs from, and maybe even compliments, the beloved series and its eventual spinoff.
A month of content here at rmrk*st isn’t complete with a few deep dives from our contributors! One piece explored the psychology of the show, charting narcissism and borderline personality disorder in the characters through the lens of the series. We sent slayer watchers Giles and Wesley to The Twilight Zone with a piece that can only be described as fan-fiction-meets-literary-criticism. We took a close look at the use of silence and sound in the show, from special episodes like “Hush” 🤫 and “Once More, With Feeling” to how the score compliments every installment. We explored female tropes in gothic fiction from Buffy to Bella in Twilight, and examined the characters of Buffy and Faith in light of cowboy vs. outlaw or good girl vs. bad girl stereotypes often used in storytelling. And because Faith is such a great character, we ranked her best episodes throughout the Buffyverse.
In August we also had a bit of fun with Buffy fandom! On our Instagram stories, we put vamps up against each other for followers to vote for the most iconic in our Slay Who? Bracket Challenge! (Make sure you’re following your favorite Remarkist fandom accounts on Instagram for more voter polls and games like this!)
One of the best things about BTVS is, of course, the hottest club in Sunnydale: the Bronze. It’s where anybody who is anybody can be seen on a Friday night listening to the best bands of the 90s and early 2000s, which is what inspired these 90s grunge album covers dedicated to characters in the show. And did you ever wonder how Spike might fit into other classic TV shows and movies? Never wonder again.
Did you know that our Discord is now a hotspot of fandom-led trivia? Questions might pop up at any time. But if you’re looking for Buffy trivia specifically, we’ve got not one, but two trivia challenges (one with spoilers, one without spoilers) to test your knowledge!
Just like Barbie and Ken drove 🚗, biked 🚲, boated 🚤, and flew 🚀 from Barbie Land to the Real World, we’re thrilled to have traveled to September. And we can’t wait to bring you the seasonal content you’re craving. Since Gilmore Season…er, Autumn 🍁…is upon us, we’ll be highlighting the best Fall episodes of Gilmore Girls you’ll want to plan some watch parties around. Hispanic History Month starts September 15 (through October 15) and we will shine a spotlight on some of our favorite creators in TV, film, and literature, with input from the Remarkist community.
