Dr. Who for Newbies, Trivia, Gift Guide, and Thanksgiving
This November we celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Dr. Who!
Friends in fandom: we can hardly believe it, but it’s November already. Feels like just last week we were heading out to the movie theater 🎥 to see summer blockbuster films, having the time of our lives at outdoor concerts 🎸, and planning our Fall convention and Halloween costuming 🦸♂️🦹♀️. Time surely flies! Don’t you just wish that sometimes, you could go back? (Yeah–we’re going to start hinting at our November rmrk*st Magazine theme right away; we’re so excited!)
So before we talk about November, let’s get into our time machine and take another look at what you might have missed in October! We’ll be back to the future before you know it (Doc Brown invented time travel on November 5, 1955, after all).
Fall in general 🍁 is undoubtedly the time where we celebrate everything Gilmore Girls. To that end, we hosted a weekly challenge on our Instagram stories where fans voted on their favorites of Lorelai’s coats! 🧥 We also dug into the musical references 🎶 of the show, according to Lane Kim, and put together a definitive list of every band and artist mentioned by Lane or Hep Alien on the show! (Study this one for your next trivia night…or better? Use it to build a trivia for your friends!)
Speaking of those candy-loving 🍬 Gilmores, we imagined what the Stars Hollow residents–as well as other characters from our favorite TV shows–might choose as their preferred Halloween sweet treats! 🎃
Since October and Halloween go hand in hand, it’s a great time to have spooky scary fun and perfect your costuming skills! Every year, fans flock to theme parks around the U.S. for Halloween festivities, and we put together a list of the best ones–make sure to save the list for your holiday planning next year! Costumes and cosplay 🦸♂️ are a huge part of the fan experience for conventions and of course, Halloween, so we took a look at cosplay in fandom, highlighting the creative ways enthusiasts express their love of characters and stories.
You don’t have to save chilling shows to watch just at Halloween, but nevertheless we put together a list of the scariest TV shows 😱 to check out for the season! And for those who love a thrill but prefer humor over horror, our not-so-scary 👻 list of TV shows is fun all year round!
Finally, we launched a new monthly post in October: The rmrk*st Roundup! Each month, the Remarkist Editors will pull together a list of the TV shows, movies, music, books, etc. that we are loving lately and share them with you! We love recommendations, so be sure to let us know on Discord what you’re loving too!
Now let’s jump back in time to the present! Have you guessed our next theme? Time travel is…a factor. 🕢🚀 That’s right: in honor of the 60th Anniversary of the show, we are dedicating November content to Dr. Who! We have a robust community of fans at Remarkist who are bonafide Whovians, and it’s undoubtedly one of the most influential series’ in the science fiction genre. Fans of the original and current series span generations. We’ll be exploring the series from favorite villains to trivia to a handy gift guide for the Dr. Who fan in your life (or, let’s face it, yourself). If you’ve never watched the show, no worries: some of us haven’t either so we’ll be asking some resident Remarkist experts to help a newbie get into the series. Because if there’s one thing we know at Remarkist, it’s that a fan is the best guide to watching a new-to-you series or movie!
Our Table of Contents is below. Make sure to subscribe so you don’t miss a single article drop! And check back here as we add links throughout the month. And most importantly, if you’re a Dr. Who fan make sure to follow our brand new Utterly Unofficial Dr. Who Instagram account! We’ll be posting surprises there all month long and beyond!
