Connections, Intergenerational Partnerships, BTS Collabs, and Black Female Friendships
February is the best time to celebrate all kinds of relationships
Is it just us, or was that the longest January ever? Quite possibly, it always feels like a bit of a slog after the holidays. More time to snuggle up on the couch and watch our favorite shows and get in some good reading, is what we say. It’s full-on winter, which means days are short and the month ahead is going to be short as well! That’s right, we’ve made it to February–hard to believe 2025 is officially underway.
We’re cooking up some engaging content for the month ahead, but in case you were hibernating in January, let’s catch up! Our theme for the first month of the year was Discovery, because nothing says “new year” like exploring new horizons. We aimed to get you out of your fandom ruts and inspire you to find new content to obsess over. If you are fond of certain shows but just aren’t sure how to find new-to-you stories, we hope this love this/watch that list will help! Similarly, gateway fandoms are a great way to find new worlds you might never have been interested in otherwise.
Sometimes content leads to new personal interest discoveries, like finding real life stories that speak to us through historical fiction. And speaking of reality, we took a look at some real world scientific innovation galvanized by sci-fi movies and TV shows. Things get really exciting when creative folks combine their devotion to a subject or franchise with their own specific talents and interests, in turn producing something completely new. Creators are fans first; every artist has been influenced by a spark of something that speaks to them.
Are you feeling exhilarated by all that discovery? Great! Because with new discoveries comes new connections. February is typically a month where we celebrate love: romantic love, friendship love (who doesn’t fondly remember those cute Valentine cards we passed around in elementary school?) and family love. Sometimes, however, the most fulfilling relationships and collaborations aren’t marked by those kinds of love per se. We all find meaningful connections with others who share our interests, or even that we spar with; the art we have passion for often leads us to find others who share that passion.
At Remarkist, we are all about connections: between individual fans who become close friends, between collaborators who build fun experiences together, and between collectives of fans who love the same things. We form strong relationships with those we discover new ideas with. So to that end, our theme for February at rmrk*st is Connection. We’ll be exploring relationships on film, collaborations behind the scenes, and more. And of course, we will be celebrating Black History Month with a look at the best female friendships in fictional stories on screen.
So take some time this month to tell someone you like their ideas, strike up a conversation, go on an adventure, and build connections that lead to exciting collaborations. At Remarkist, we hope you’ll find like-minded creative folks to connect and build with. Look to our upcoming February content to help get you started!
