Krizt took a deep breath as she approached the crate. It was large, could easily fit a speeder of some kind, and was sealed tight. She had a feeling about what was inside, and it made her skin crawl. “C5!” she called to a tin can mech in the corner. It whirred to life and rolled forward, a panel on its side opening to reveal a set of tools. Krizt grabbed one and shoved it into the lock on the side of the container's lid.
Reena stepped up beside her, looking at the crate with a mix of fear and curiosity. “What’s the plan here?” she asked.
Krizt didn't answer. She was too busy working on the lock. It was tricky, but she had done it before. A few seconds later, the seal hissed, and the top slid open. It was a man, frozen solid in some kind of silver-gray substance, the outline of his body frozen in agony.
“We have to release him,” Krizt said, her voice low and urgent. “He's the only one who can help us get out of here.
Reena looked skeptical. “How do you know?”
Krizt didn't answer. She was already working on the controls of his lead tomb. They needed to move fast. The alarm was getting louder, and now oddly, they could hear the sound of blasters echoing from somewhere deep in the ship.
“Do you hear that? Kritz! They've breached the Knave!”
Krizt finished her work, and the dark rock began to thaw around the figure.
Suddenly, there was a loud explosion, and Suddenly, there was a loud explosion, and the ship
shook violently. They both stumbled, and more sparks rained down on them from the ceiling. The lights dimmed as they regained their footing. The sirens were still blaring in the distance, but the blaster fire had stopped.
Krizt felt a new presence there and turned. Two robed silhouettes stood in the bay's portico, blocking their exit. Reena noticed them next and took a step back, reaching
for the blaster on her hip.
“Away from the crate,” one of the figures demanded from under his darkened hood, and they both ignited flaring beams of white-hot fire.
