The rmrk*st Roundup: Friends and Friendship Bracelets
The TV, Movies, and Music that the rmrk*st Editors are loving lately!
At Remarkist, fans of all kinds of content–movies, TV shows, music, books, and games–are indulging in watch parties 📺 and listening parties 🎧 every day, sharing what they love with other enthusiasts. The Remarkist Editors here at rmrk*st are of course big fans of stuff too–and we decided to dedicate a post here to what we are loving lately! Introducing (drumroll please! 🥁) The rmrk*st Roundup, where every month, we’ll share the TV, movies, books, etc. that we’re personally excited about and why. We are thrilled to bring you this first installment!
In TV…
In honor of Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we spotlighted the TV show Reservation Dogs in a previous post. And we loved watching it for the first time! The character development is excellent, and it’s both funny and touching. We binged this one over just a few days.
We can’t say we’re ever not in a Friends mood, but lately we are watching our favorite episodes even more while mourning the loss of the great Matthew Perry. Friends is a classic for a reason: it’s a comfort show with comfort characters that actually feel like our friends. We don’t ever see this one disappearing from our permanent queue.
One show that our Bachelor franchise lovers are freaking out over? The Golden Bachelor. It’s downright inspiring to watch 72-year old widower Gerry Turner put himself out there to meet amazing women, who are also in their golden years. What we love the most about this weekly hour of TV is just how much fun everyone seems to be having, in between reflecting on a lifetime of love, loss, and joy. Check it out if you’re down to laugh and cry and laugh again in quick succession.
And since it’s spooky season, we are loving The Fall of the House of Usher which has no doubt gained a permanent spot on our annual Halloween watch list.
In Movies…
We can’t deny that this month, what topped the box office was Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour. Some of us 👀 attended the movie more than once or twice in its short run in theaters (and we were sure to snatch up those limited edition popcorn buckets 🍿 and tins). If you weren’t able to get tickets to Taylor’s U.S. tour in the summer of 2023, this tour movie is a great way to experience the show. The best part? Dancing and singing along 🎤in the movie theater with strangers and trading friendship bracelets! And speaking of Taylor Swift….
In Music…
Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) re-recorded album–with five new “from the vault” tracks–dropped on October 27. Remarkist members hosted several listening parties to indulge in the music 🎶 and discuss the new album. Here on the editorial team at rmrk*st, we’re big fans of TS and have been loving these new vault tracks. On our Discord, we have Taylor Swift threads that are always lit up with conversations about the music 🎹 and Taylor’s next moves. Join fans there if you’re looking to chat about anything Swift!
In books and audio…
It’s a great month for audiobooks with fantastic celebrity memoirs newly out, as well as audio originals. Remarkist members are in the midst of a community watch party of both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, and so something we are loving is Slayers: A Buffyverse Story, the Audible original by Christopher Golden and former cast member-turned-author ✍️ Amber Benson. And so many members of the cast are featured; we love hearing everyone’s voices on the audiobook.
Taylor Swift isn’t the only pop princess on our minds: We are absolutely obsessed with the audiobook version of Britney Spears’ memoir, The Woman in Me, narrated by actress Michelle Williams.
