Really interesting and well written piece! Can we also talk about how the second floor of the Gilmore house has one room?!

One room and seemingly no bathroom (or at least none that we ever saw)? In such a large house?!

Love how the Disney Imagineering example grounds the whole argument in someting tangible. The shift from passive background (sitcom sets) to active landscape (LOST's jungle) really clarifies what elevates worldbuilding. Honestly hadn't thought about how the Hellmouth setup gave Buffy infinite narrative runway until reading this.

Thanks! And yes, there was always some monster we never heard of crawling out of the Hellmouth…it was genius because the setup meant we never questioned it. It even felt like an expected inside joke. Every weird creature or happening could be explained by “well, it IS a Hellmouth…if you know, you know!”
