We hope you have a good stash of leftover Halloween candy to get you through the end of 2026, as spooky season wraps up, and we enter into the holidays. It’s November, and we are so glad you’re here with us! It’s a great month for fandom: a perfect time for cozy nights in watching favorite movies and catching up on TV shows during time off over Thanksgiving.
Before we tell you what we have in store, let’s take a look back at what you might have missed in October. Our theme was Community, drawn from the traits of the Host persona of fandom. A host celebrates getting everyone together in the spirit of fandom, and community is the result of that enthusiasm. The fun of being a fan in part comes from experiencing the love of something with other people. And community can exist both in joy and distress. To that end, we took a look at how fandom gets stronger during times of grief: whether it’s the passing of a creator, the cancellation of a show, or the loss of a favorite character, fans rely on that community to process loss together. We also took a look at how a community looks out for its members by protecting them from spoilers: fans want other fans to have a great experience with content they love, and so have unwritten rules around sharing spoilers.
This November, we are dedicating content to the Analyst persona of fandom. An analyst is interested in digging deeper into content, and so our theme is: Subtext. Often what we see from a story is the tip of the iceberg; we can explore a story further to find more context and extract meaning. And our topics will illustrate that.
This month, we will explore the role of villains in a particular work, and how they stand in for thesis statements about the world. We’ll also look at how clothing and other costumes enhance or aid in character development. And, we’ll discuss what is missing from shows and movies, the scenes intentionally left out by creators in order to guide the narrative and play on the viewer’s imagination. If you’re into psychological suspense, unreliable narrators, or documentaries that only show so much, this one’s for you.
As always, our table of contents is below. Make sure you are following John Cabrera (who has been traveling this fall for appearances and special events!) and Remarkist on Instagram. You can find more information about everything we’re doing here at Remarkist at our website and on our Discord. Also: don’t forget to sign up for the Folkic waitlist, which will grant access to our community app where you can find other fans just like you and build remarkable experiences together.
