Reboots, Redemption Arcs, Revisiting Old Favorites and Cancelled Cult Classics
Spring is all about refreshes and renewals!
Nope, it’s not a joke–April is here! We hope you’re enjoying the beginning of springtime and all that comes with it: some showers, nature’s renewal, and spring cleaning. At rmrk*st Magazine, we’re excited to dust off the winter and look ahead, refreshed.
Before we share what’s happening in the month to come, let’s take a look back on what you might have missed in March! Since the third month of the year brings events focused on luck and superstitions with March Madness, the Ides of March, and St. Patrick’s Day, we dedicated last month’s issue to Luck and how the concept shows up in a myriad of ways in storytelling and fandom.
We explored narratives where winning a lottery is essential to a plot or character development–whether that is a good win or an unfortunate one. And speaking of lotteries, lucky numbers or significant digits often play a role in fiction and other fandoms as well.
In some of our favorite series and movies, plot and character are sometimes driven by a lucky charm or talisman which adds an element for fans to track in the series’ they love. And often, luck is used in storytelling to bring two characters together in a meet-cute, or conversely relies on the idea of fate. Either way, the presence–or absence–of luck in bringing character together plays on several storytelling tropes.
As we spring forward, our theme at rmrk*st Magazine for the coming month will be focused on Renewal! We’re looking at the benefits of a refresh in all contexts related to fandom. From reboots and looking back on old favorite stories with new eyes, to the art of the character redemption arc, we are inspired by the season to take a fresh look at the worlds we love exploring.
