Queer Lit, LGBTQ+ in Video Games, Trans Actor-led Shows, and the Evolution of Queer TV
Happy Pride!
It’s hard to believe that we’re halfway through 2025, but it is, in fact, June! This month marks the vibrant arrival of summer in many parts of the world, a time that every year is filled with energy, change, and celebration. School is out, vacations begin, and the days stretch longer than they have all year. It’s the start of summer concert season, blockbuster movie releases, and pop culture vacation opportunities. (It’s also a big month for one of our favorite TV franchises, nbd.)
But before we reveal what’s on the horizon for June, let’s take a look back on our May content and catch you up! Last month, we dedicated rmrk*st Mag content to graduation season! Graduation is a fantastic foundation for great storytelling: the event is about endings, beginnings, goodbyes, nostalgia and lots of personal growth. For this reason, there are so many impactful graduation movies that are easy to watch again and again. And some of the most amazing commencement speeches come from pop culture moments in movies and TV. We also did a deep dive on graduation-ready songs for your summer playlists and commencement parties. And lastly, we put together an exploration of movies and TV that examine what happens after school, featuring characters who are newly post-grad and figuring things out.
The month of June is more than just the gateway to summer—it is also a time to celebrate cultural and emotional touchstones. We are thrilled to dedicate this month’s content to Pride in fandom and pop culture! We will take a look at video games featuring queer characters and storylines, (now that Season 2 of The Last of Us is over and we need more content!) We’re putting together a list of new books–fiction and nonfiction–for 2025 featuring LGBTQ+ characters and historical figures. In TV, we’ll look at shows led by trans actors, and the evolution of queer stories in the medium.
Let us know what you’re celebrating for Pride! We want to hear what you're listening to, watching, and reading. And don’t forget to subscribe to make sure you don’t miss a single article, delivered straight to your inbox.
