If you’re a pop culture aficionado, and we know you are, you’re perhaps reveling in an oldie but goodie May meme, celebrating a newer one, or gearing up for May the 4th. That’s right: April showers are gone and May flowers are here! And we’re excited.
But before we launch into what we’re gearing up for in the month ahead, let’s take a look back on the content we published in April! Our theme was Renewal! We dedicated our pieces to refreshes in pop culture and fandom. Some of those refreshes are personal: there are many ways to revisit a fandom from your own past whether it’s attending a convention or rewatching the content with other fans and friends. And while you’re rewatching, you might discover new feelings you have about content with impactful character redemption arcs. It’s so much fun to rewatch a series or franchise from the beginning when you know how a character you might not like in the beginning transforms along the way.
We also looked at reboot culture as a type of content renewal. Reboots are ubiquitous—and sure, there are mixed reactions in pop culture to how many there are! We took a look at a few reboots we really love and feel offer a fresh spin on older IP.
Sometimes a refresh comes in the form of a second life after cancellation; we made a fun list of TV shows that gained cult fandom status, sometimes well after cancellation and have staying power for decades.
Now that we’ve looked back, we can look ahead to the future! And what’s a better time to look to the future than….Graduation? In May, graduates all over the world finish up their studies and commence the next phase of their lives–so we’re taking a pop culture approach on the theme! We will take a look at graduation in the content and franchises we are excited about, examine some of the most popular graduation songs from artists we love over the years, track some of the best graduation speeches in pop culture history–and more.
So stay tuned to this space, and make sure to smash that subscribe button! Let us know in the comments what you’re loving in fandom and pop culture–new shows, old shows, movies you’re excited about, music you’re digging and more! And keep your eye on our Discord where you’ll find other fans like you, and get up to date info on all things going on at Remarkist. We’re headed into our fourth year, and we couldn’t be more excited! Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram and Tumblr too for even more fandom content and news!
Without further ado, the table of contents for May! Cue “Pomp & Circumstance”…
