Happy Pride! Drag Culture, 'Ships in Fandoms, LGBTQ+ Musicians and Gilmore Summer
We're celebrating Pride in fandom as well as the start of summer!
We're halfway through 2024, and vibe check: it’s been an exciting year for fandom! We’ve seen the new season returns of highly anticipated shows like Bridgerton and Hacks, as well as thought-provoking series like Baby Reindeer and We Are Lady Parts which have dominated water cooler conversation. We’ve loved movies like Challengers and Dune: Part Two (hey, it’s Zendaya’s world; we just live in it) and watched them make waves at the box office and in pop culture. And Taylor Swift stunned her fandom with not only a new album, but a new set addition to her Eras Tour. Both established and newer fandoms are really having a great year with so much fantastic content out there. And it’s not slowing down anytime soon.
You might have already guessed our theme for June, but before we discuss, let’s go over what we did here at Rmrk*st Magazine in May, track by track. Last month, we got ready for summer by celebrating live music, since the season always brings incredible live concerts and music festivals. And to that end, we took a look at some of the best festivals to go to in the U.S., depending on your taste as well as the best concert venues to visit. Love concerts and festivals but want to make it a tropical vacay? Just add water and go on a music fandom cruise!
Sometimes the best way to experience a band’s story is from the comfort of your own home. We found some of the best music documentaries you can stream right now. We also launched right into a familiar debate: the Song of Summer. May is also Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage month, so we put together a list of shows and movies you can watch right now to celebrate.
This June, stay tuned for some incredible content as we devote our attention to Pride! We will be celebrating the LGBTQ+ contributions to fandoms via breakthrough characters, music, fan fiction, and more. We are also attending the Culture Awards in New York City on June 15, the annual event presented by the extremely popular Las Culturistas podcast and its hosts, Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers. Stay tuned for a review!
So keep your eye on this space for article drops for the rest of the month. Below is our Table of Contents, and we’ll be updating it with links to our pieces. Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram and tumblr, as well as Spotify where we occasionally drop playlists for your fandom interests! And our Discord is the best way to meet other fans of all types of content, chatting all day, every day, about their favorite fandoms.
