Which Friends Side Character Are You?
A quiz to find out where you’d hang out in the Friends world!
Sure, all of the main six characters of Friends are beloved. Maybe you identify heavily with one of them. In your friend group, maybe you dub yourself the “Monica” if you’re a self-proclaimed neat freak or a “Joey” when it comes to dating or the “Chandler” if you’re known to make jokes. But Friends is a great show in part because of all of the delightful side characters we’ve been watching and rewatching for decades. Three decades, in fact. In September 2024, Friends celebrates its 30th anniversary! That’s A LOT of time hanging out in a coffee shop.
So we put together a fun quiz for fans of this beloved show so you can find out which side character you are. Take the quiz and then scroll down to see which character suits you best!

The Answer Key
Mostly A’s: Janice
Your voice is the most distinct one heard throughout the West Village. You live a comfortable life, never missing a chance to be a tourist in your own city. You’re a sucker for romance, so you love watching a romcom or making a mixtape for your beau–but unfortunately when you follow your heart, others’ hearts get broken along the way.
Mostly B’s: Marcel the Monkey
You’re not exactly sure how you got to the big city, but you love it here. You’re friendly and always looking to chat–even invading peoples’ personal space by jumping on them–it’s part of your charm! In your free time, which is always, you love heading to see your friends at the Central Park Zoo or on TV watching Animal Planet. In fact, you love watching so much that your dream is to be an actor–you’re planning a move to Los Angeles to start working on the silver screen!
Mostly C’s: Richard
You’ve never been mistaken for anything but distinguished. Your conversation style is clear and confident, with a bit of wisdom woven in. You’re accomplished and successful–not a bad life if you can own a Jaguar and retire in Paris. You love spending quality time with loved ones, so you prefer a quiet night in watching a classic movie to a wild night out with the boys–although it’s nice when they invite you.
Mostly D’s: Gunther
You’ve always felt slightly invisible, always hanging in the background. You’re somewhat shy and avoidant; you only speak when spoken to, in deadpan one-liners. You’re in the mix enough to be invited to parties, but would anyone notice if you didn’t come? You’d make a great gossip columnist; since nobody really pays attention to you lurking, you overhear everyone’s business. But you’d give anything for the love of your life to see you as much as you see them.
Mostly E’s: Emily
A visit to a foreign city is enough time to fall in love and move your entire life across an ocean–or at least embark on a transatlantic long-distance relationship. You are sweet and trusting, and love getting to know your new love’s friends–at least until you find out your new fiancé is still in love with his ex. You’re nice to everyone–until you have a reason not to be. Your breakup playlist is full of powerful music by women scorned.
