Once upon a time, a war novelist and politician with a secret was flung into the spotlight when his wife was found dead at the bottom of the stairs in their Durham, North Carolina home. The case of Michael Peterson drew international attention and inspired a crew of French filmmakers 🎥 to produce a 2004 documentary about the trial, and a 2018 follow-up on Netflix.

In this 1984 hit, Tom Hanks is less "America’s Dad” and more “Cute Guy You Bring Home to Meet Mom and Dad.” 😍 Hanks’ character falls in love with a mermaid, played by Daryl Hannah, who has to learn the ropes of life on land (turns out you can’t just walk around in the buff all the time). Chaos ensues as Hanks must choose between land and sea, and if The Little Mermaid is one of your favorite Disney movies, you may just love Splash, too.
