It’s no secret that many people are interested in true crime. Podcasts, documentaries, and nonfiction books about crimes, murders, and scams are huge with consumers. But what about those TV shows that feature fictional crime? They’re just as big with dedicated fanbases. We’ve put together a list of TV shows that fit into the category that we’re calling “untrue crime” that you must add to your watchlist!

1. True Detective

A critically acclaimed series, True Detective is known for its gripping storytelling and complex characters. What’s most exciting for viewers is that each season features a self-contained narrative with a new cast and characters, a new location, and a new storyline. The show explores themes of crime, corruption, and the human condition. Season one premiered in 2014 and takes place in Louisiana, following a pair of state detectives as they investigate a serial killer. 4. Only Murders in the Building

Speaking of podcasts…this intriguing series starring Martin Short, Steve Martin, and Selena Gomez blends mystery, comedy, and drama into an irresistible package. Set in a Manhattan apartment building, the show follows three neighbors who become unlikely friends when they bond over their mutual love for true crime podcasts. When a murder occurs in their building, the trio embarks on their own amateur investigation, hoping to uncover the truth behind the crime while recording their findings for their own podcast.
