📣 Our next Slate of official watch parties is here!
Announcing a stellar line up of watch party programming on Remarkist this spring.
We are thrilled to announce our new Slate of official live programming on Remarkist! Watch parties are coming back, y’all! Slate 5 starts on Tuesday, February 28, 2023—and we are thrilled to add new franchises to the mix while we finish up an old favorite.
Things will be slightly different this Slate. For one, the cadence will be less frequent. We’ll watch on two weeknights and a weekend afternoon (or morning or night, depending on your timezone). This will free up the schedule for the Remarkist community to host additional events that embrace our Slate. We’re hoping to see you at gab sessions, Fast Talks, Jukebox Jams, trivia, Memento challenges, and more. The sky is the limit when it comes to fan creativity, so we want to allow the community to engage in all sorts of fun ways.
This Slate also introduces our first movie franchise. And this one is a biggie—it’s got twelve live-action films that span across decades and… galaxies far, far away.
All of our Slate watches will take place in our Remarkist app audio dens, so if you haven’t yet downloaded the app to reserve your @membername, now is the time!
New here? Welcome! Not sure what a Slate is? Let's refresh!
Slates are 9-12 weeks of official watch party programming. We pick a few franchise series on TV and film and watch them together. We make a big deal out of each and enhance them with all kinds of additional play.
Slates are exciting community-wide endeavors that are made even more remarkable by supplementary events and experiences hosted by other fans here. We highly encourage Remarkist members to create additional content around our Slates throughout the week, like games, gab sessions, and listening parties that celebrate these franchises.
We also expect to see past Slate series, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, continue on with member-led watches and content too. You should expect our calendar to be filled to the brim with all kinds of community events. They might not be connected to our Slate, but it’s amazing Remarkist content just the same.
In case you’re wondering, these were our past Slates:
Slate 1: Drag Race, Firefly, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (S1)
Slate 2: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (S1), Schitt’s Creek (S1), and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (S2 - 4)
Slate 3: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (S2), Schitt’s Creek (S2 & 3), and Bunheads
Slate 4: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (S3), Schitt's Creek (S4 & 5)
So without further ado, here are your Slate 5 watches 📣!!!
Abbott Elementary (Tuesdays at 7pmPT/10pmET/4amCET)
We’ve been hearing so much about this hit show, and now that it’s in its second season (with a slew of Emmys on the teacher’s desk 🍎 ), we thought, what better time than now to experience it as a community? This half-hour comedy tells the story of a group of dedicated teachers working at the worst public school in the country 🏫. The characters are determined to give their students the best they can while working within some pretty tough constraints. We’re expecting a lot of laughs paired with just as much heart. Are you as psyched as we are to dive in?
Schitt’s Creek S6 Series Finale (Tuesdays at 7pmPT/10pmET/4amCET starting April 18)
This spring, we embark on the final chapter of this endearing and hilarious comedy. If you were with us last season, you might remember our epic bracket competition featuring David’s sweaters, the aptly named Tournament of Threads 🧶 ! Each week we pitted sweater against sweater and let social media decide the winning design. Members who participated and picked their brackets early had to wait and watch as their pick for Sweetest Sweater either folded or reached the top of the pile (puns not inten— okay, totally intended). We had so much fun with the game that we came up with a new bracket for this final season. Let’s just say we are excited to see some of you get ahead 🦰 of the completion.
Dawson’s Creek (Saturdays at 10amPT/1pmET/7pmCET)
You’d better believe it! This Slate has two Creeks for the price of one! And did you know January 2023 marked the 25th anniversary of the premiere of Dawson’s Creek? I didn’t. But if you’re a fan, you probably did, and you’re probably geeking out about a big ole community watch of this nostalgic series. It was one of the most popular shows on the WB network in the late 1990s and launched the careers and super-stardom of the then-unknown actors Michelle Williams (nominated for another Oscar this year! Jeez, Michelle, leave some for the rest of us), James Van Der Beek, Katie Holmes, and Joshua Jackson—although, to some of us, Charlie Conway will always put Pacey in check 🏒 . The show’s creator, Kevin Williamson (who had just sold a little screenplay called Scream before creating Dawson’s) described it as a show about sweaty palms and first kisses and based it mostly on his adolescent experiences living on a creek in North Carolina. Oddly though, the show is only filmed in Wilmington, NC but is set in… Massachusetts? Can you tell I’ve never watched a single frame of this series? But I am excited to experience it for the first time and return to the 90s with all of you.
The Star Wars Film Franchise (Thursdays at 7pmPT/10pmET/4am—pajama party—CET)
It’s impossible to overstate the impact that the Star Wars universe and fandom have had on popular culture, and we are over the moon to finally get it on our Slate—even though… that’s no moon 🌑.
Fans of this franchise span many generations, not only because these stories are timeless but because the newer films came out decades after the inaugural release. This Slate will include weekly movie nights on Thursdays, and each week will feature one of the Star Wars live-action films. True fans watch the films in the order that was intended by George Lucas himself—canon chronological—so that’s what we are doing. If you have never watched or only have seen a few of the films, this is the perfect time to experience them with die-hard fans, like… well, me! I’m a geek over episodes 4-6. And yes, we will be watching one of the films on May the Fourth! Here’s the schedule:
March 2, Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999)
March 9, Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002)
March 16, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005)
March 23, Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
March 30, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)
April 6, Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)
April 13, The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978)—*Yessss in Wookie*
April 20, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
April 27, Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983)
May the 4th Awaken, Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015)
May 11, Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)
May 18, Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
We hope there’s something special for you on this next Slate and that you’ll join us for some or all of our events! Share this with a friend who might already be a fan of these shows/films, and bring them along.
As always, our Discord server is the best place to discuss these franchises as we watch them. Our forums there are full of lively community discussions around the stuff we love—shows, movies, books, and music!
