One More Time for the Fans: Pop Culture’s Greatest Reunions
Recent fandom reunions we cannot stop thinking about!
Fandom sticks with you and follows you throughout your life in many cases. So much of our fandom originates with material that is long finished: a movie we loved as a kid, a band that has since broken up, a TV show that was known for offscreen romance between the stars. We relish these moments of the past as they define our foundations for our interests. So how much fun is it to get lucky and witness a reunion within our favorite fandoms? Whether a long-awaited sequel, a new project between actors we love from an older show, or a drop in special guest at a concert, fandom reunions briefly break the internet and fill us with joy, prompting us to go back and reminisce, re-watch or re-listen, or simply take in the fandom discourse. Here are some recent reunions in pop culture we are so excited about!
Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson
When photos of Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson filming on the streets of New York showed up online recently, a very specific section of the internet exploded. Specifically the millennial fandom of the 1990s/early 2000s show, Dawson’s Creek. The pair did date as young actors while filming the show, and their characters Joey and Pacey were the main love story of the entire series, sparking a generation of online shipdom. Katie Holmes announced in July that she is writing, directing and starring in the film trilogy they are filming called Happy Hours. We can’t wait to see two of our faves back on screen together.
Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato
In another millennial fandom win, recently at a Jonas Brothers concert at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, fans could never have predicted the treat they were in for. Demi Lovato, fellow recording artist and star–alongside the Jonas Brothers–of Disney’s Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2, joined the trio on stage for an epic reunion. The films launched the careers of both Lovato and the Jonas Brothers, and fans have been obsessing since 2008. Lovato and the JoBros have quite a bit of history: not only did they star in the Camp Rock films in the mid-2000s, Demi and Joe briefly dated and later she went on tour with Nick. There have been a lot of ups and downs, and this reunion felt like a huge exhale for fans who have been following both the band and Lovato since they themselves were preteens. Together, they sang two iconic songs from the films: “This Is Me,” “Gotta Find You,” and “Wouldn’t Change a Thing.”
Freakier Friday
In 2003, Lindsay Lohan starred in the remake of the 1960s-era body swapping teen movie Freaky Friday. Teenage Lohan and co-star Jamie Lee Curtis charmed audiences with their excellent onscreen chemistry as controlling mom and rebellious daughter. In August 2025, Lohan and Curtis reunited for a sequel decades in the making: Freakier Friday. In a new story, the plot follows an adult Anna who is navigating the challenges of a blended family with her daughter and soon-to-be stepdaughter. Nothing a little body-swapping won’t fix! Perhaps what is most exciting about this release are the multiple easter eggs for The Parent Trap (another remake of a classic 60s film) and other Lohan movies throughout the film. And one of the best moments of all? Parent Trap alums Lisa Ann Walter (Chessy) and Elaine Hendrix (Meredith Blake) joined Lohan on the red carpet for the premiere for a reunion that drove millennials wild.
The Devil Wears Prada 2
The Devil Wears Prada is forever an iconic film. Since 2006, you don’t have to even be a fan of the movie to recognize hilarious one-liners that show up in memes and often-shared gifs. The movie is based on Lauren Weisberger’s debut novel that was published in 2003, the plot based on her experiences working at Vogue. But Anne Hathaway’s Andy and Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly might as well be on the Mount Rushmore of pop culture. So it’s no wonder that fans are freaking out about the filming of The Devil Wears Prada 2, photos of which have been popping up all over the internet. The original stars are back together for the new film, which will come out in 2026, with Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci too. The original was a satire on the very real, cutthroat fashion media industry; the new movie will focus on the challenges of the modern landscape of new media and show us what our favorite characters have accomplished in the last twenty years.
Jennifer Garner and Judy Greer
They may have played frenemies in the 2004 cult classic 13 Going on 30, but co-stars Jennifer Garner and Judy Greer have remained close friends ever since they acted in that movie together. That’s why fans are thrilled to see these two together onscreen again. Garner stars in the TV series adaptation of the bestselling book, The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave, and Greer will be joining the cast for season 2. Earlier this year fans were delighted to get a slew of Instagram photos of the two ladies gallavanting around Paris together while filming. What we love the most about this pairing is how relatable they are. Greer even referred to their dynamic as “friend dorks.” It’s no wonder why fans are obsessed.
Happy Gilmore 2
Adam Sandler’s 1996 comedy film Happy Gilmore is a staple in pop culture. After a hugely successful run as an SNL cast member and the release of the mega-hit Billy Madison, Sandler had become one of the most famous comedy actors of all time by the mid-90s. Since then, fans rewatch his classic films over and over as they serve as a foundation of late 90s zeitgeist. And in 2025, thirty years after its release, Sandler got the gang back together including Michael McDonald and Julie Bowen for a sequel: Happy Gilmore 2. This time, Sandler included his own family, having his real life daughter Sunny play his daughter in the movie. The plot of the new film improves on the original and contains so many hilarious callbacks that it’s a feast for fans who have loved it for decades.
Oasis on tour
Formed in 1991, the Manchester, England band Oasis became one of the defining bands of the Britpop genre. For years, their influence was undeniable, with record sales through the roof and well-attended concerts. Fans of Oasis are losing their minds this summer as the band is on tour since they split in 2009 when Noel Gallagher abruptly quit. The band’s fate was always in question, as brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher have a long history of feuding, a fact that contributed to their ongoing fame and lore. But this year, the Britpop band put together a massive UK and North American tour, delighting fans from all over for this once-in-a-decade event.
Destiny’s Child at final Cowboy Carter show
Beyoncé embarked on an epic tour in 2025 for her album, Cowboy Carter, celebrating the release of the album with a stadium show filled with incredible imagery, special effects, choreography, and storytelling. The highest grossing tour in country history, Cowboy Carter was a fandom playground for devotees who came dressed up in their best country gear: fringe, leather, and glitter. A small part of the setlist featured some throwbacks to Beyoncé’s earlier music: both her own, and with Destiny’s Child. But the biggest treat came for fans at the final Las Vegas show: original members of Destiny’s Child–Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland–came to the stage as “Independent Women” played. Their first on-stage reunion in seven years, this one broke the internet for a night.
HamilTEN
Ten years ago, the sensational musical about the birth of America, Hamilton, opened on Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theater after an off-Broadway run at the Public Theater. Writer and star Lin-Manuel Miranda already was a winner: his musical In The Heights had won Tony Awards for Best Musical and Original Score. But when he picked up Ron Chernow’s massive biography of Alexander Hamilton on a vacation, he was inspired by his life as an immigrant-turned-Founding-Father, and wanted to use modern music including hip-hop, rap, R&B and pop to tell the story of the birth of a nation. Hamilton was an absolute sensation: the tickets hard to come by, the media freaking out, social media covering daily Ham4Ham lottery draws (where folks who won the ticket lottery could purchase a ticket in the first row for $10, or, a Hamilton). Ham4Ham became a show in itself; as the crowds drew bigger, the cast of the show and special guests would do a quick performance of some kind on the steps of the theater. In 2025, Lin Manuel Miranda brought the tradition back in honor of the show’s 10th anniversary, staging several Ham4Ham shows on the steps of the Rodgers featuring different show casts from all over Broadway in the run-up to the Tony Awards. Many Hamilton cast reunions were planned: a special Tony’s performance featuring the original cast, and an on stage curtain call reunion featuring all cast members who have ever been in the production after the 10th anniversary performance on August 6, 2025. The 10th anniversary, or HamilTEN as it has been affectionately named, has been a months-long event with many fan-service moments; the next being a theatrical release of the Hamilton film, currently streaming on Disney+.
