Being an Australian, a dog-person, an educator, and a new parent, it is perhaps no surprise that I love Bluey! The show revolves around its titular character, a six-year-old Australian Cattle Dog / blue heeler; her younger sister, Bingo; father, Bandit; mother, Chilli; and their everyday adventures. With huge helpings of humour and heart, the show is at once entertaining & educational, realistic & relatable, witty & warm.

Here are my top ten reasons why Bluey is bonza:

  1. It is so relatable!

  2. It showcases Aussie culture and life Down Under.

  3. It challenges gender stereotypes and societal ‘norms’.

  4. It encourages learning through imaginative play.

  5. It deals with serious issues and how to navigate big feelings in a child-accessible way.

  6. It features wonderful classical music and award-winning original scores.

  7. It is beautifully animated.

  8. It is wholesome and a great reminder that there is so much joy in everyday life.

  9. It makes you want to be a better parent/human.

  10. It is hilarious, has many Easter eggs, and is all-round just a lot of fun!

Despite being quite new, the show already made it onto Rolling Stone's (2021) list of the 100 Best Sitcoms of All Time! So if you haven't yet jumped onto the Bluey Bandwagon, there's no better time to start watching this absolute gem of a children's show. Of course, I'm not actually convinced it's a children's show.
