Friday Night’s Alright for Cooking: Announcing This Week’s #FridayNightDinnerChallenge
You’ll need more than two stale Pop Tarts and a Slim Jim! Create a winning basket and collect top bids for a 1000 KRNL prize!
The town’s annual “Bid on a Basket” fundraiser is about raising money for exciting projects, like fixing bridges and getting off the septic system. Ginchy!
But we all know what it really is: A competition to show off one’s creative culinary skills OR a means of grabbing the attention of a potential suitor…Why? It’s tradition!
To kick off Week 2 of our Super Sensational Summer Spectacular virtual festival to celebrate fans of the TV show Gilmore Girls, we’re introducing our second #FridayNightDinnerChallenge:
The challenge of the week is to create a picnic basket (or suitable substitute—“basket” is open to interpretation!) filled with goodies that would have the Town Selectman calling the highest bidders.
You can participate in one or more of three categories for this competition and submit as many submissions as you’d like (but one basket per submission):
Gourmet Picnic: Channel your inner chef and put together a meal that would be worth $250 to buy back from the Town Man-child. Or pick up your fave fancy foods and hope for a love connection. Fill this basket with stuff that is anything from magazine-photo-worthy to restaurant-inn-level delicious!
Eat Before You Bid!: You’re not much of a cook, but that’s ok! Fill your basket with leftovers in the fridge, snacks nearing their expiration date, or a half-open bottle of wine. You might ask your preferred bidder to eat before your romantic picnic lunch, though. This basket isn’t the fanciest–but at least you cleaned out your pantry!
Healthy, Clean, and Decorative: Your basket would gain the solid approval of the Town Antiques Store Owner. Fill your basket with the healthiest options like homemade granola, wheatgrass juice, eggless egg salad, unprocessed snacks, etc. And pick a nice-looking, if not ornate, vessel: when you’re done with your sensible meal, your basket can be used for a second purpose, like holding household items. Waste not, want not!
Now that you know our categories, get ready to craft a basket! (Whether it’s store-bought or handmade from pretzel dough is entirely up to you.) Here’s how to enter:
Put together your best picnic meal, and make sure it’s portable (it should be in a basket of some form).
Starting on Friday, June 10 at 12amPT/3amET but no later than 3:30pmPT/6:30pmET, post a photo of your basket on either Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram (a normal post, not just a story).
Tell us what category it is in the description. And include the hashtag, #FridayNightDinnerChallenge
IMPORTANT: The post must be on a public account or be a publicly viewable post on Facebook so it appears in the hashtag search.Tag Remarkist in the post (IG: @Remarkist, Twitter: @JoinRemarkist, Facebook: @JoinRemarkist)
Tune in to the event on Friday, June 10 at 5:30pmPT/8:30pmET to celebrate all of our entries and hear the details of what happens next!
What’s a basket auction without bids? Winners will be chosen by community “bidding” in our Discord channel. Members will “bid” on their favorite basket in a special Discord channel that will present all the entries. Bidders will react to their top favorite post in each category. John will break any ties, and each category winner will receive 1000 KRNLs in our app which can be used for special events and other prizes!
Stay tuned for more info as we continue to welcome cast members and special guests during this one-of-a-kind virtual festival!
